How will I communicate with my child’s teacher
Parents should feel free to reach out using whatever method they prefer: note in the backpack, e-mail, phone message with the office, or the Remind app. Generally, teachers prefer to use the REMIND app for daily communication because it allows them to message all parents at once. Please keep in mind that teachers are not expected to respond at all hours or when they are with students. However, they should respond within 48 hours during the work week.
To join a Remind group, send a Text to 81010 with the word “join” and your class code as the message OR join at www.remind.com and type in the class code OR use remind app on Apple and Samsung devices and type in the code. See the Adaire website for more information.
How do adults enter the school?
Always enter via the Thompson St. door. You will be buzzed in. Always check-in at the main office and sign-in
How do I know what school supplies my student will need?
Visit the Adaire School website student tab to find school supplies lists by grade. The list is generally posted in the late spring
Does the school serve breakfast and lunch?
Yes! BREAKFAST PROGRAM: Breakfast is available to every student at no cost. Breakfast is typically served in the classroom during homeroom. We encourage every student to take advantage of this opportunity as proper nutrition is an important ingredient to one’s well being. The menus are available on the Adaire website, but they are subject to change.
What is the lunch and recess schedule?
LUNCH & RECESS PROGRAM:
Grades K – 2: 10:45-11:30
Grades 3 - 4: 11:30-12:15
Grades 5 – 8: 12:15-1:00
A hot lunch is available to every student at no cost or students may bring their own lunch. Menus are available on the Adaire website, but are subject to change. Students are given approximately 20 minutes for lunch, 5 minutes to transition, 20 minutes for recess. Kindergarten students may need reminders to focus on eating as 20 minutes can go by quickly.
When weather is poor the recess team may decide to have students spend recess in the auditorium. Sometimes a short show or movie will be shown. Adaire students eat lunch in school and may not leave the school grounds during the day.
When packing a lunch please do not use glass containers. They can be easily broken and become hazardous. Also, note that there is no way to reheat
individual lunches. Please send personal lunches in with your child in the morning. It is a disruption to the learning process if lunches are dropped off during class time. If it is necessary to drop off a lunch, you may leave it with the main office.
Who is on the playground supervising the kids during recess and 95 club?
Adaire has a team of 4 adults who supervise students during recess. During 95 Club, a few members of the Adaire staff and 4-8 parent/guardian volunteers supervise students.

Can students have water bottles all day?
Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school. Please put their name and classroom number on it. Bottles can be refilled in the hallway drinking stations. These stations serve as water fountains also. Drinking times are determined by classroom teachers.
What is the dress code?
The Adaire uniform consists of a blue polo style shirt or an Adaire logo'ed shirt and khaki or blue pants, shirts, jumpers, or shorts. On gym days the uniform is any blue or Adaire t-shirt with blue shorts or sweatpants. On gym day students may wear the gym uniform all day – they will not be changing.
Cold weather clothing accessories, including sweaters, vests, sweatshirts or turtlenecks should be solid navy blue or an item sold through the school. For example we sometimes have royal blue sweatshirts with the Adaire logo for sale. Neckties, tights, socks and winter coats may be of any color or pattern you wish. And footwear should be comfortable with a closed toe and back. Sneakers must be worn on gym days.
The school logo or school approved image is the only graphic permitted on clothing. Uniforms can be purchased from many retailers (Old Navy, Target, etc.). Adaire logo’d gym shirts or specialty shirts can be purchased in the main office.
We offer a uniform swap on an ongoing basis and/or can advise you where to find very inexpensive options for your child. Anyone who is currently enrolled or who has an incoming student for an upcoming school year may participate in “uniform swap” events hosted by the school or contact the school about coming to pick-up/drop-off uniforms during regular school hours.
Not permitted:
● Decorations - i.e. stripes, checks, non-Adaire approved logos, sequins, etc.
● Blue Jean material
● Hoodies
● Flip flops, sandals, jellies, slides, clogs or any type of open front/back footwear
On picture day and most Fridays, students will be provided the opportunity not to wear a uniform (aka “dress down”), if they wish.

How do I get involved?
There are many ways to get involved at Adaire, both during the school day, after school, and on your own time. A great place to start is by reaching out to someone from the School Advisory Council (SAC) who can talk a bit more about what you are looking for and the different options for parent involvement currently available - through SAC or otherwise. Email [email protected]
What is SAC anyway? Is that the same as Friends of Adaire?
There are two main family involvement groups at Adaire that routinely work together:
The School Advisory Council (SAC) is composed of family members, the school principal, teachers or other school-based staff, students, and community members. The SAC is tasked with advising the school leadership on important decisions, but they also take on projects that support improved student achievement, effective teaching in the classroom, parent and community engagement in the educational process, and communication and support between home and school. SAC has general meetings, typically every other month, and also committee or as-needed meetings. Meetings will always be announced in the e-news or you can [email protected] to learn more.
Friends of Adaire (FoA) is an independent non-profit organization that is made up of folks who want to champion Adaire in the community as well as raise funds to support the school. You do not need to have a current Adaire student to be active in FoA - future Adaire parents very much welcome. FoA often organizes weekend/evening events for the Adaire community such as the annual Trunk or Treat celebration around Halloween and monthly happy hours. You can contact us at [email protected] for more info.
What clearances are necessary to volunteer at the school?
If you want to volunteer at the school in a capacity that will put you into contact with children, you’ll need to complete paperwork and background checks (called “clearances”). These clearances are good for a few years once they are complete. More info can be found on the district’s website or by contacting the school counselor, Mr. Frangipani.

Who will be interacting with my child during the day in addition to their primary teacher?
You can review the list of staff on our school website.
The general groups are office staff (secretary, nurse, etc.), teachers, support staff (aides, etc.), specialists (psychologist, etc.), lunch staff, custodians, volunteers, and any outside groups who may be doing special programming within the school. All these individuals require the background checks/clearances described above.

Where should I park when I visit the school?
Please find legal street parking in the neighborhood. The parking lot on Palmer street is for teachers/staff only during school hours, but is available after 4pm (until it is locked each evening). The area in front of the school along Thompson street is a loading zone available for quick pick-ups/drop offs. Please do NOT park on the sidewalk, crosswalks, or other spaces that could endanger pedestrians.
Parking & Traffic Info:
As a general rule, cars are never allowed in the schoolyard. Exceptions have to be made for garbage/recycle removal, some periodic deliveries
and facility repairs.

- After 4 PM the teacher parking lot is available for activity (soccer, chess, etc.) pickup or drop off if absolutely necessary.
- The teacher parking lot has active car traffic throughout the day and especially in the morning and immediately after dismissal. This parkinglot gate into the schoolyard is not a public access point. The gate is locked. Use the Thompson St. gate as an entrance and exit.
- Other expectations to be aware of:
- Ball play is welcome before 8:25 AM, during supervised recess period and after 3:25 PM.
- Parents & Caregivers - once your child has been dismissed from his or her teacher please stay connected to them.
- Snow is a no go. Official school district policy forbids throwing snow, ice or climbing on snow or ice on school grounds. We ask that every parent and caregiver reinforces this while monitoring children in the yard.
What are the playground rules?
Adaire committed to providing a safe playing and learning environment for students while also taking good care of the space. To support this we’ve begun a list that describes what it means to have a culture of playing and moving safely in our space. We hope that every family and student will embrace this process and lead by example.
wrestling and any other activity that involves lots of contact is not okay. Use gentle or “butterfly fingers” to tag or get someone’s attention. Ro-Sham-Bo is our Rock-Paper-Scissors version of conflict resolution. When kids disagree we encourage them to use this system instead of hurtful words, yelling or physical contact.
- Have FUN and remember that everyone can play!
- RESPECT:
- Respect yourself: Be a great example of positive behavior, stand up for yourself, and don’t get talked into doing things that you know are wrong or make you feel uncomfortable.
- Respect each other: Show kindness & use appropriate language. This is a curse free zone.
- Respect the space: Play in unrestricted areas - the soft surface, the play structure, or blacktop. Stay clear of restricted areas. Planted areas are not for walking, running or human feet. The low slate-topped long bench is a sitting wall. Running, walking or jumping happens on the ground – not on or along the wall.
- Respect the Softness: The soft surface area and the toe path are only designed to support feet. Anything with a tire (bike, scooter, skateboard etc.) must stay on the blacktop only.
- PLAY HARD: Not too hard!
