A proud historyThe school's namesake, Alexander Adaire, had a thriving lumber business in the late 1800s at Howard and Berks streets. He served on the Philadelphia Board of Education for 30 years, and was a key early champion of night schools to enable working people to continue their education. Read more in this history of Adaire, written by a Philadelphia high school student and informed by the work of local Fishtown historian Kenneth W. Milano. |
