Hello and Welcome from Friends of Adaire!

Friends of Adaire is an association of parents, educators, and community members whose mission is to enrich the education of Alexander Adaire students by providing additional resources and support for the school and its surrounding community. We work closely with families, teachers, staff, and the Fishtown community to create an inspiring, challenging, and supportive educational environment at the Alexander Adaire school.

Friends of Adaire Trunk or Treat & Fall Fest Saturday, October 21st
1200 Block of Palmer 1pm-4pm
Our annual Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat fundraiser is back! Come join us on the 21st to raise money for our school and our 8th graders.
Get your costumes ready, as you stroll through some creepy and cooky Halloween-decorated vehicles, bikes, and tables parked along Palmer, full of candy and goodies. The event is free and we'll have tickets available for purchase so you can take part in one of our activities and games!
We need lots of volunteers to make this event run smoothly. Please click here to donate your time and talent.

The Adaire Schoolyard is complete!  Thanks to incredible investment from The Trust for Public Land, Philadelphia Water Department, School District of Philadelphia, and the community of support around Friends of Adaire. Friend of Adaire Denis Devine led the efforts to see this incredible project through.

"After learning about all the great things going on at Adaire at last June's end of year meet and greet with Principal Jenkins, I wanted to figure out how I could contribute to the great things happening in the school.  I reached out to Principal Jenkins, we discussed my interests and experience, and she connected me with 7th grade teachers Mr. McGeehan and Dr. Long. The teachers identified a small group of students who could use a bit more attention and reading practice and I meet with them once weekly to practice reading.  The teachers provided some resources to use to find appropriate readings for the tutoring sessions. The students and teachers have been great and they deserve more time than I can give. Adaire is welcoming to volunteers with all backgrounds. The first step toward making positive impact at Adaire is connecting and finding where your time and talent can be put to use for our school."
-- Megan Rooney, Adaire neighbor and volunteer afterschool tutor
“So many parents are scared of their local school. You hear so much negativity about what’s going on. But once you step inside, that negativity is gone. The teachers don’t have it, the kids don’t have it. What’s happening inside this school is amazing.”
-- Joe McAteer, Adaire parent and board member for both Friends of Adaire & Adaire Home & School, in the Philadelphia Public School Notebook
