Adaire Chess Club

Mondays, after school

The Adaire Chess Club, founded by Friends of Adaire founding board member Stefan Zajic, meets Mondays after school, with coach Michael Sheridan. Each week, 15-30 students of all grades meet to play chess, solve puzzles, learn tactics & strategy, and have fun.

Chess has been shown to have a positive impact on academic achievement for kids of all ages, for topics such as math, science, and problem solving. In addition, chess builds character in areas including fair play, personal responsibility, determination and thinking ahead.

Many thanks to the After School Activities Partnership for their support of chess at Adaire, and to volunteers Bryan, Mark, and Vicki, who help every week.

Congrats to the 2017-2018 Adaire Chess Team, who finished 6th city-wide in the Philadelphia Scholastic Chess League! Special honors to Sadie Krumrine, who was named the Top Female Chess Player in the Elementary School league.
